Denver Art Museum

02 December 2011
I don't think I've ever loved a city more than Denver. The busyness, the people, and all the opportunities makes me very blessed to be able to live here. One of my favorite features about Denver is every first Saturday of the month is free day at the art museum. It's perfect for any poor college student to experience seem culture. What is also perfect is that it's a chance to wear a good pair of heels. I never get the opportunity while in Colorado or walking around campus. With that, going to the art museum is my only lope hole. I have never felt more like Carrie Bradshaw than when I walk around Denver in my favorite H&M pumps.
Also, I tried Pinkberry for the first time. Nothing tops off the perfect like frozen yogurt.

Senior citizen

30 April 2011
One of the traditions of being a senior is taking senior photos and mine are finally in. Even though, I got lost on the way to the shoot, got my first speeding ticket, and was an hour late; it was totally worth it. Susie, my photographer, is a close family friend and she did a fabulous job on my photos. She made the shoot fun and special. Susie even stop a little girl riding by on her bike and asked if we could use it for my pictures. Senior year is fabulous.

If I were a rich girl

15 April 2011
While I was working at Village Inn my nickname was princess Melanie. So at my mom's wedding, when my godmother fairy godmother gave me three designer bags completely free it was my happily ever after. When I wore my new Prada purse to school the week after I just so happened to wear my Tiffany & Co. necklace as well. My best friend Kaylie commented on how I looked like a rich girl. This got me thinking; even though I'm about to attend college (in short, I'm broke) in fashion I can still dress like I have lots of lettuce. I look at the future princess Kate Middleton and think how easy her style is to copy. Wearing silkily fabric and keeping it simply is the key to looking like a rich girl...even when you're not.

Spring into a new season

21 March 2011
Can you smell it? Can you feel it? I can. The blossoms are in full bloom and the temperatures are raising. It's spring time! Finally, after months of long pants and warm jackets I can whip out my sun dresses and sandals. What is even better than 90 degree weather is knowing you're wearing a dress proudly. Not only do I love wearing strapless dresses but this dress was a deal. I got it Anthro for only 30$ on a gift card while it was originally 145$. Getting down to it, I got it for free and I wear it feeling rewarded. This spring season I'll be forcing more on fun, cute pieces like these while yellow has also sprung into my wardrobe. I am very excited to enjoy each day of the beautiful sun as it's one of my lasts in Arizona.

Room Raiders

08 March 2011
Last week Kaylie slept over and the next morning I proposed the idea she should dress me for school. As if I was her own personal barbie doll. You must know my dear friend Kaylie is obsessed with Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl. In my personal taste, I'm more of a Serena Van Der Woodsen but since I gave her full permission to dress me I knew I was going to look preppy and clean cut like Blair herself. In the end, I was impressed with the outfit Kaylie picked out and felt it was only appropriate to have a quick photo shoot in my room.

Baby, it's cold outside

19 February 2011
Actually it wasn't that cold. Last weekend, my church family and I took a trip to Prescott. In years past when I went on those retreats it was freezing. Expect, this year, it was beautiful, cool and bearable. Thankfully, I didn't need to pull out the snow coat for my last winter camp. Although, the long sleeved shirt and wearing socked with my toms came in handy. When dressing for colder weather keep the colors simple while adding pieces with patterns. Take note of how the pink shirt goes with all the other colors; blue, grey, yellow. A simple color like this one can pull all sorts of other colors into a outfit and be helpful when adding floral sunglasses. By the way I got the shirt for only five dollars! Who knew winter clothes could be so cheap? Well winter in Arizona.

I plead guilty...

05 February 2011
to being the biggest shopaholic. Even though I don't have an income anymore I still find ways to go shopping and get my buying new clothes fix. When I was coming home from a trip once a friend and I were in the New York City airport. If you've ever been in there, it's like a mini mall. So while I was shopping my friend turned to me and said, "have you ever seen that shopaholic movie? Cause you remind me of..." That's all I needed to hear to know where she was heading. My addiction is no secret; I love shopping. There is no better feeling than getting new clothes.
I lied. Getting new clothes and figuring out how to wear them is the best feeling. Every Sunday night I spend time picking out my outfits for the week and trying out all the different ways to wear a piece. After I do this weekly ritual, it looks like my closet exploded all over my room. It's not a very good habit but I love picking out outfits and finding how many ways I could wear it. This all leads to what happened to me a couple days ago. Last weekend my mom and I went shopping and since I'm dirt poor she was willing to buy me a new dress. It's not that I needed this new dress, since I own over 30 dresses, but it was a really good deal that it would be a crime to pass up. We found it at Kohl's for $12 when it was originally around $60. Score! Since I have several floral dresses just like this one I thought was the perfect opportunity to put my styling habit to work. Here's an example of how a dress can be worn many ways and how much accessories can influence the look.

Causal: Over sized cardigan, ballet flats, matching tied belt. Hair: Simple bread ponytail Perfect for: Meeting the parents, Coffee break, Baking cupcakes

Edgy: Leather jacket, heels Hair: Messy Perfect for: Concert, Date night, Party
Preppy: Trench coat, flats, tights (even though I'm not wearing them tights bring the look together) Hair: swapped up Perfect for: Rainy day, Bookstore shopping, Pretending to be Blair Waldorf

From dressing up to down, I love how, in fashion, one piece can have three, five, or even ten ways to wear it. Take any style and make it fit into every occasion so that the heads will be turning and the clothes still swaying the right way.
